Roxanne “The Happy Warrior” Modafferi recently did an interview with undefeated female Japanese fighter Rin Nakai (16-0 MMA) for MMASucka.com.

During the interview, Modafferi learns that 27-year-old Rin Nakai has participated in combat sports nearly her entire life, starting with Judo at age 3.

Nakai chose gymnastics over Judo in middle school, but her parents reversed that decision, and Nakai ended up with a bronze medal at Judo nationals.

At 19 she joined retired fighter Kancho Usami’s Shooto Gym Shikoku, and has trained there ever since.

After going undefeated in her first five fights, Rin disappeared from competition for the next two years. When she returned, she had gained 15-pounds of solid muscle, which she attributed to two years of heavy eating and lifting.

“My coach Kancho Usami instructed me to,” Nakai explained.

Despite being just 5′ 1″ in height, Nakai has remained undefeated in both the bantamweight and open divisions, winning the Queen of Pancrase title. During her career, Nakai has scored notable wins over opponents Tara LaRosa and Sarah D’Alelio.

This Saturday in Japan, Rin Nakai will put her undefeated record on the line against former Strikeforce champ Miesha Tate.

Nakai described the bout as being her “toughest challenge to date,” and added that her opponent is “Beautiful and sexy!”

I would personally have to agree with both of her assessments.

Be sure to catch this pivotal women’s bantamweight matchup this Saturday on UFC Fight Pass.
